About Us
Welcome to MonkeyTyping, a free online typing platform that brings together typing tests, structured lessons, listening-based exercises, and interactive typing games.
Whether you are learning to type, preparing for a typing assessment, practicing programming syntax, or working toward a higher words-per-minute (WPM) score, MonkeyTyping offers different ways to practice and develop your keyboard skills.
What Is MonkeyTyping?
MonkeyTyping is a browser-based platform where you can measure your typing speed, practice different types of text, learn keyboard patterns, and enjoy typing-based challenges.
You can start practicing as a guest without creating an account. The platform also offers accounts, progress tracking, leaderboards, and multiplayer gaming for users who want to save supported results or compete with others.
Online Typing Test
Our free online typing test measures your typing speed and accuracy directly in your browser.
Choose timed tests of 15, 30, or 60 seconds, select a word-count challenge, practice quotes, or type longer scripts. You can also practice with numbers and punctuation or choose from 50 available languages.
Results include words per minute (WPM), raw WPM, accuracy, and consistency, helping you understand your performance across different attempts.
Structured Typing Lessons
MonkeyTyping offers 50 typing lessons across five modules. The lessons progress from home-row fundamentals to top-row and bottom-row keys, numbers, symbols, and mixed typing practice.
Repeated keyboard patterns help you become more familiar with key positions and develop consistent typing habits. You can track your progress and best WPM for individual lessons.
Sentence Typing Practice
Our sentence typing practice tool contains 10,000 sentences organized into 25 parent categories and 238 child categories.
With text-to-speech, you can listen to sentences and type what you hear instead of copying text directly from the screen. This gives you another way to practice listening, spelling, and typing accuracy together.
Vocabulary Typing Practice
Our vocabulary practice tool includes 6,597 words across categorized collections.
Each exercise combines listening to and typing an individual word with typing a sentence that uses it. This connects word recognition and spelling with practical typing exercises.
Keyboard Warrior
Keyboard Warrior is a typing game where words move down the screen and you must type them before they cross the hit line.
The game features 1,000 levels across 23 topics, difficulty settings, accuracy requirements, combo multipliers, and a points-based ranking system.
You can also participate in multiplayer matches with two or four players, adding a competitive element to the typing experience.
Typing Games
Explore our typing games collection, featuring seven additional solo games designed to make keyboard practice more engaging.
Wend: Find and trace words through a letter grid.
Word Scramble: Unscramble words using their meanings.
Falling Words: Type falling words before they reach the bottom.

Play as a Guest or Create an Account
You can start using MonkeyTyping without registering an account.
If you choose to create an account, you can use a unique username and a four-digit PIN to associate your identity with supported results and leaderboard entries.
Keep your username and PIN somewhere safe. The account interface states that they cannot be changed or recovered later, so keep your PIN private.
For details about how personal information and account data are handled, read our Privacy Policy. You can also review our Terms & Conditions for the terms governing your use of the platform.
How Typing Scores Are Calculated
MonkeyTyping uses the five-character convention commonly used to calculate typing speed.
WPM: Correct characters divided by five, then divided by the time taken in minutes.
Raw WPM: Total typed characters divided by five, then divided by the time taken in minutes.
Accuracy: The percentage of correctly typed characters.
These measurements help you evaluate your typing performance and follow your results across practice sessions. Exact calculations can depend on the selected test mode and how errors are handled.
